While working on my inaugural post for the "new" site, I received this heart-breaking news... Anthony Bourdain, the legend, has passed away.
I've said on my instagram that the world has lost "an irreplaceable voice", and that is a resounding truth. A pioneer and rebel, he was content in doing whatever the hell he wanted, in an industry that is fickle about who and what should be popular at the moment. By not giving a shit about what others thought, he truly was THE voice for the unspoken, and unknown parts of an industry that few know (admittedly myself included), and many only see the surface value of. I've read his books, watched his shows, and followed the guy on social media. Listening to the way he narrates a topic was insanely refreshing, compared to the stale and predictable way other shows were presented. His wit, and snarky commentary, tickled a part of my own sense of humor that instantly made me like this celebrity stranger. Not only that, he tackled topics in other countries, both related and unrelated to the food industry. After many title changes, network changes, and re-iterations of the show, "Parts Unknown" most recently settled with CNN. At first I thought it was uncharacteristic of a news network to carry a show that primarily revolved around travel and food - but then, when I took time to think about what Bourdain does, and the things he talks about, I realized that it was just about a perfect fit. In the current climate of our culture, it all really does tie together. I could go on, but for right now, I'll stop.... This post is just a small tribute to a stranger who will never know the full impact that he has had on the world. I hope that his legacy inspires you to travel, cook, try new things, explore, get involved, give a shit about what actually matters, and not give a shit about what doesn't.... May he rest in peace and love.

HOLY CRAP - it has been a massive amount of time since I've been on the site.
New things are coming.... posts, digital media, better photos, and a new concept I'm hoping to explore and share. I've got new ideas; I've been to new places; I've eaten new foods - and damn.... I'm still hungry. I'll be periodically making new posts, and changes to the site itself. So stick around, visit every now and again, and check out what's new! Until the next post..... |
